Norfolk to St Thomas, USVI November 2-16, 2012
CELESTIAL, our IP 440 departed Taylor's Landing Marina on November 3rd, 2012 at 10:00 PM EDT after two preparation days. The crew members
are: Captain Jack Morton (Florida), First Mate Jim Bortnem
(Minnesota), and student crew members David Bradsher (Virginia), Ingo Stubbe (Massachusetts), James Barber (Massachusetts) and Richards Briggs
(Tennesee). CELESTIAL will make the passage to St Thomas USVI
via a non-stop ocean route. The cruise has an estimated distance of 1500
miles, and will take approximately 11 days, sailing both day and night. We will
discuss the route, weather and actual progress here on our blog as

Skymate test - please confirm receipt. Day one went well. Food aboard. Depending on weather check in AM, may try to leave Sat eve to be across Gulf Stream before low comes around Hatteras maybe Tuesday. Any thoughts? J

Just got your email of yesterday this AM. Steady progress to SE yesterday, sailing with the wind early, then beating. 8 - 12 watch last last night characterized by 25 kts SW, punctuated by a half dozen 'showers' to 45 kts. Hove to midnight to 0600, when CF passed, bringing wind out of the NW around 20. Passed jib and off we go. Sausage & pancakes. Life is good. J

So much for flying. Discovered a tear (maybe 4' ?) in upper genoa tonite. have rolled it up. No spare genoa in shower. Will search out repair materials for temp fix to genoa when wind gets light. Staysail up now, and probably OK for next few days.
